Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh has officially taken over from Prof. George K. T. Oduro, as Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Prof. Edu-Buandoh becomes the first female Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University.
Speaking at the hand-over ceremony, the immediate past Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oduro thanked the Vice-Chancellor for creating an enabling environment for him to carry out his duties. He expressed gratitude to the University Community for the support during his term of office. “No individual can succeed without the help of others”.
Prof. Oduro advised the new Pro Vice-Chancellor to open up and work with members of the University Community and consult whenever the need arose. He urged her to be firm in taking decisions and do away with rumour mongering.
On her part, the new Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edu-Buandoh thanked the University Council for her appointment. She acknowledged the fact that the responsibility was a huge one and therefore, will need the support of all colleagues. “I will need the support of colleagues to provide the Vice-Chancellor the needed support to realise his vision and the overall vision of UCC”
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ghartey Ampiah, congratulated Prof. Edu-Buandoh on her appointment. He urged her to work hard to achieve her vision for the office which was in line with that of the Vice-Chancellor. He reiterated the call for her to be fair and firm in the discharge of her duties.
Prof. Ampiah announced that, due to the appointment of former Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Prof. Edu-Buandoh as the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Eric Amuquandoh, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences has been appointed as the Acting Provost of the College. Prof. Barima Antwi, Vice-Dean of the Faculty has also been appointed as Acting Dean of the Faculty.
Present at the ceremony were some members of Council, Provost of Colleges, some Dean of Faculties/Schools, Directors and some Head of Departments/Sections/Units.
Profile of Prof. Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh
Professor Dora Francisca Edu-Buandoh, is an Associate Professor of English at the Department of English, University of Cape Coast. She holds a Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ from Komenda Training College; a Diploma of Education, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and a Master of Philosophy Degree in English Language all from the University of Cape Coast. She has a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages (TESOL) from the University of Wisconsin, Madison (USA) and a PhD in Language, Literacy and Culture from the University of Iowa (USA). She is a Fulbright Scholar, a DAAD Alumna and an Alumna of the Galilee International Management Institute, Israel. She was the Coordinator of the Communicative Skills Unit, Head of the Department of English, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, and former Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies. Her research interests are in Discourse Studies, Language and Ideology, and Language and Identity. Prof. Edu-Buandoh has served on many institutional and national committees.
